Video won't play? Choose a supported browser or device

Here's how to usually fix a video that won't play right away: which browsers and devices work well, and when to switch.

If a video won't play, switching to one of the browsers or devices below usually fixes it right away.

Best combinations

  • iPhone or iPad (iOS 16 or newer): Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Brave all play videos smoothly.

  • Mac: Safari plays videos smoothly.

  • Windows 10 or 11: Chrome, Edge or Brave on a reasonably modern computer.

  • Android: Chrome, Samsung Internet, Brave or Edge on most phones from the past few years.

If your browser asks you to enable something

💡 On Mac, Windows or Linux, Firefox and Brave sometimes show a one-time prompt asking you to allow a component for video playback. Accept it and reload the page. After that, the video will play normally.

When a video won't play at all

  • iPhone or iPad with iOS 15 or older is not supported. Update to iOS 16 or newer, or use another device.

  • Links you open inside another app (such as Instagram, X or Telegram) often can't play video. Open the link in your phone's default browser.

  • Some Linux browser versions and privacy-focused browsers don't support video playback. Try Chrome or Firefox.

🚨Important information

Keep your browser and operating system up to date. Outdated versions are the most common cause of playback problems.

FAQ

I updated my browser and the video still won't play.
Clear your browser's cache and reload the page. If that doesn't help, try another supported browser from the list above.

Does it matter which browser I use on iPhone or iPad?
No. On iOS and iPadOS, Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Brave all use the same playback system.
